Chandigarh, August 28: The secret is now out as to how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mentor Saffron Brigade plan to take Bharat to the highest orbit of socio-economic development and restore the lost glory. The first shot has been shown by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. In a move unprecedented in the legislative history of India, a Jain monk fully covered in the nude was invited to sermonize the law makers in the ‘Pavittar Sadan’ of the Haryana Assembly on Friday. After all, the Man of God must be ensconced in a place that has been provided highest constitutional sanctity.
The Assembly complex is part of the capitol complex and like the civil secretariat, this magnificent building too is shared by Punjab and Haryana. This was constructed for bicameral legislature system. The chamber that was the Upper House is now the Haryana Assembly.
The House had been adjourned when the naked monk made his entry. As per the report in The Indian Express, he was there to deliver his “Kadve Vachan”.(For complete story, click the link http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/tarun-sagar-jain-religious-leader-monsoon-session-female-foeticide-eradication-pakistan-haryana-2998501/). The highly venerated Jain monk Tarun Sagar spoke for about 40 minutes on issues ranging from relations with Pakistan to terrorism to female foeticide to duty of the wife. He was seated above the seats of the Governor and the Chief Minister.
The Jain naked monks are considered to be highly respected by the sect.
Haryana is a state where Khaps have adopted resolutions instructing girls not to wear jeans or carry mobiles, such is the state of mental backwardness. Here was a naked monk delivering sermons from the high podium of the state assembly. It is irreconcilable contradiction. Khattar should explain this phenomenon.
Of course, this development provide yet another indication of the pernicious agenda of the saffron brigade to put the country in reverse gear, public posturing by Modi to the contrary. He has been parcharak of the same brigade to which Khattar also belongs. The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh always talks of ancient Indian culture and the glorious past. It is a different matter that India as present geographical entity emerged on the global map with the annexation of Punjab after the Anglo-Sikh wars of 1849. History and geography might have been different in case the Sikhs had defeated the British who were supported by the native Indians.
Khattar has set the precedence. Now imagine Punjab organising 3-day Akhand Path in the big high domed hall that is Punjab Assembly in the same complex.
All hell might have been let loose in case the Punjab government had organized even Kirtan in the Assembly hall for the ministers and MLAs after the adjournment of the House. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal might have been accused of furthering the Panthic agenda. However, no political party worth its name has spoken even a word against this trend. Badal should organize Kirtan for about an hour in the House during the next and last session of the present Vidhan Sabha to be held next month. It would have salutary effect on the state polity. There would be no harm in organising langar too. After all, Akali Dal is in alliance with the Saffron Parivar since 1996. Following the Haryana precedence might further cement the bonds between the alliance partners.
An interesting part of the sermon was women empowerment. He stated, “At the political level, the government should decide that those who do not have daughters should not have the tight to contest Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. At the level of society, people should not marry their daughters into the families that do not have daughters. At the religious level, saints should decide that they will not accept alms where there are no daughters…We are living in 21st century. Even today, when boys and girls are differentiated, I feel we are living in the 14thcentury”. So true except for the gender discrimination in his own spiritual field.
It has raised the broader issue about the direction this country is taking while Modi talks of development. Akali Dal used to blame the Congress for following the divide and rule policy. Badal all along has been silent on the divisive agenda of the Saffron Brigade.
The party did not utter a word when Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar described Pakistan as ‘hell’. That hell is the land where Sikh religion came into being. Nankana Sahib, the birth place of Guru Nanak, the Founder of the Sikh Faith, is in Pakistan and the Sikhs pray for free access to their shrines every day in that ‘hell’ in their Ardas.
PS: A day after a Jain monk addressed the Haryana assembly, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain apologized on Twitter for a tweet by music director and Aam Aadmi Party supporter Vishal Dadlani. (The Indian Express)….Just another example as to how AAP is different from other political parties, the party that promised alternative model of politics and governance!
